Dr. Murphy has recently been named one of 30 Most Innovative Women Professors Alive Today (a group that includes Condoleeza Rice and Temple Grandin). She is an Engineering Faculty Fellow for Innovation in High-Impact Learning Experiences, exploring the use of projects that engage students with emergency responders and her use of case studies from practitioners as well as science fiction. These projects for these classes will engage hands-on, societal learning building on the humanitarian Lifeguard Assistant Project started in January 2016 when the Center for Robot-Assisted Search and Rescue deployed to Greece to assist the Hellenic Coast Guard and Hellenic chapter of the International Red Cross in preventing drowning deaths
