Wireless Networks for Multi-Robot Communications

Project Type: Sensor Networks, Wireless Communications, Mobile Robotics

Advisors: Ricardo Gutierrez-Osuna, Siddharth Choudhuri

Project Description:

The goal of this project is to develop a wireless communication network for multi-robot teams. The network will allow the vehicles to communicate within a confined space and exchange information. It is expected that the communication modules on-board each robot will employ RF technology. A number of scenarios may be investigated including distributed exploration, self-organizing networks, and multi-robot coordination.

Major Goals:

  1. Learn about ad-hoc wireless networks and multi-robot cooperation
  2. Develop an RF-based sensor network environment for teams of small robots
  3. Develop an application scenario where robots collaborative perform a task

Deliverables:

  1. A wireless communication system for multiple small robot microcontrollers
  2. Schematic diagrams, parts list and instructions to assemble the system
  3. Project documentation, as described in the course syllabus
  4. Live demonstration
