Self-Sustaining Solar Powered Robot

Project Type: Mobile Robotics, Intelligent Sensors

Advisors: Ricardo Gutierrez-Osuna, Steve Ortiz

Project Description:

Design and create a mobile robot capable of storing solar energy and monitoring this energy store. When it becomes low on energy it should seek a strong light source and charge its battery. Once refreshed, it should perform some interesting behavior that will quickly consume its energy supply and repeat the cycle.

Major Goals:

  1. Learn about solar panels, light sensors and batteries
  2. Develop a system to store and monitor solar energy
  3. Develop an intelligent mobile robot capable of seeking light when low on power
  4. Add some entertaining behavior to this robot

Deliverables:

  1. A completed mobile robot system described above
  2. Schematic diagrams, parts list and instructions to assemble the system
  3. Project documentation, as described in the course syllabus
  4. Live demonstration
