PDA-Controlled Robot using Bluetooth

Project Type: Wireless Communication, Application Programming, Mobile Robotics

Advisors: Ricardo Gutierrez-Osuna, Siddharth Choudhuri

Project Description:

The goal of this project is to develop a wireless interface that allows a mobile robot to communicate with a PDA. The wireless communication between the robot and the handheld will be based on the Bluetooth standard. The interface will allow the user to control the vehicle with a number of basic motor primitives, and also receive information from sensors on-board the vehicle.

Major Goals:

  1. Learn about the Bluetooth standard, microcontroller interfacing and mobile robotics
  2. Develop a Bluetooth interface for the microcontroller on board the robot
  3. Develop protocols and algorithms for communication between the robot and the PDA

Deliverables:

  1. A wireless communication system between a robot microcontroller and a PDA
  2. Schematic diagrams, parts list and instructions to assemble the system
  3. Project documentation, as described in the course syllabus
  4. Live demonstration
