Imagine you were given some funds for purchasing a 3D printer. What printers would you consider purchasing? There are many considerations, including:
Cost
Upfront printer cost
Material cost
E.g., how much to print a typical chess piece?
Resolution
X and Y resolution
Z resolution
Printing speed
E.g. how long does it take to print a typical chess piece?
Noise level
Available material types
Colors, transparency
Stiffness, durability
What type of support material does it use?
Ease of use
What software does it come with?
Do you need a separate computer?
Wifi connectivity?
Is it easy to assemble?
Print reliability
What happens if things go wrong?
Can the printer detect errors and stop the printing process?
Documentation and support
Can you trust the company to give continued support?
Any chance the company could go out of business in the next few years?
You may want to check not only the manufacturers' websites but also 3rd party reviews as well as user/developer forums. Please remember to cite all references.
Pick two printers that you would consider purchasing. Write a PDF report comparing the printers. Use a separate section for each of the main points above (Cost, Resolution, etc.). You may add more sections if you think of more points of discussion.
At the top of your report, clearly name the two printers, and which one you think is the best.
