Helpful Information for Students
    The PowerPC 403GCX 32-bit RISC Embedded Controller:
    The central processing unit utilized in our designs.
    • Complete user manual for the 403GCX, providing an understanding of the chip and how to program it. See the data sheet for technical specifications.
    • Application notes giving implementation details for various applications of the 403GCX.
    The 403GCX Evaluation Kit:
    An evaluation/development board containing the 403GCX, memories, and interfacing hardware (available in the lab). The IBM RISCWatch Debugger:
    This is a system allowing you to control and monitor the 403GCX using software running on a PC (available in the lab). This is achieved via the 403GCX's JTAG debug interface, which includes a dedicated trace port used for real time instruction tracing. (Here's how it works.)
    • Overview of the RISCWatch system (hardware and software).
    • Complete user manual explaining how to use the debugger.
    • Installation guide (though RISCWatch should already be installed at your workstation) and FAQ.
    The IBM High C/C++ Compiler:
    An optimizing compiler for developing embedded PowerPC applications (available in the lab). Other Information:
    • Third party tools for software and hardware development for IBM PowerPC embedded processors.
