Educational Background

Pre-faculty Background

For the six years prior to taking my current faculty position, I was a graduate student. During this time, I worked as a research assistant for the UNC Research Group on Geometry, Physically-Based Simulation, and Applications. I also spent one summer session teaching an Introduction to Computer Science class.

Although most of my work experience has been in academic research, I spent the summer of 1995 at the Naval Air Warfare Center, Aircraft Division in Warminster, Pennsylvania. I was supervised by Bob Williams, and worked on projects involving exact computation. [This center has since closed and moved to Patuxent River, Maryland].

The summers of 1992-1994 were spent working for Los Alamos National Laboratory, P-2 (Medium Energy Physics) Group, on particle physics projects. [P-2 Group has since been merged into a different group in P Division, I believe]. I was supervised by Mike Leitch, and worked on experiments being run at Brookhaven National Laboratory (Upton, New York) and Fermilab (Batavia, Illinois). My time was spent in Los Alamos, New Mexico and Upton, New York. The summer of 1991 was spent working at an experiment at Fermilab for Abilene Christian University.
