CPSC 663 -- Real-Time Systems: Reading Assignment
For the reading assignment, you are to submit a report about three
selected papers. The selection process for the papers will be as follows: By Oct
17 you will submit by e-mail a proposal that describes the
overall topic/problem that you want to address in your study and a
list of paper you want to read and discuss.
The proposal should consist of a half-page description of the problem,
and the issues you are interested in, and a list of 6 paper
references, selected from at least 4 conferences. At most one author should
appear in more than one paper (at most two papers). The papers shall be selected from the
last 4-5 years of the following venues:
(The papers can be accessed
through IEEE Explore or through our library.)
I will then look at the proposal; based on your selection of papers,
we will agree on 3 papers that you will discuss in your written report.
The report (hard due date: December 6, 2013) shall have
the following format:
- Introduction (1-2 pages): Describe and motivate
the problem. Decribe the general state of the art, related
work. Give a very short overview of the three papers and how
they fit together.
- Analysis of papers (1-2 pages each, 3 papers):
Each analysis summarizes the paper, describes the
contributions, describes the links to the other papers in the
area and the other papers in your selection. You then describe
the underlying assumptions made in the paper and discuss their
validity. The key is that you should write a critical
analysis of the paper, not just a summary.
- Summary (1-2 pages): Summarize how the three
papers contribute to the understanding of the issue, what
remains to be done, and how you foresee the development on the
topic of study over the next several years.
